Most students find it difficult to understand the different artistic vanguards and their main characteristics. One of the reasons is because it is not common among families to visit museums and appreciate works of modern art.\u00a0 Yet, Modern Art is a main subject of different syllabuses: History, Culture and Arts History; Philosophy.\u00a0 So, to tackle this difficulty, the History teacher tried a new approach of the subject under the Erasmus + TEAARS project.<\/p>\n
Here are the main steps of that new approach:<\/p>\n
1 – A lesson plan related to museums and modern art was outlined.<\/p>\n
LESSON PLAN : <\/strong>http:\/\/bit.ly\/2C61wfJ<\/a><\/p>\n <\/p>\n 2 – Motivating students: \u201cLet\u2019s play with museums\u201d .<\/p>\n The students were invited to look around museums with the help of the Internet, having our suggestions been The National Gallery, London, and Calouste Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon. Then, they would have to pick their favourite painting and send an e-mail postcard to the teacher and friends with the chosen picture.<\/p>\n THE NATIONAL GALLERY:<\/strong> http:\/\/bit.ly\/1k7XiCI<\/p>\n CALOUSTE GULBENKIAN MUSEUM: <\/strong>http:\/\/bit.ly\/2C6ypsB<\/a><\/p>\n <\/p>\n 3 \u2013 Challenging students: Students enjoyed the activity, so the teacher launched a challenge: \u201cWhat about creating your own virtual museum? You can choose the building, the rooms\u2019 decoration, the paintings and other works of art, the virtual public and also upload music\u201d.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n 4 \u2013 Come and visit my virtual museum: Students accepted the challenge and created their virtual museums, related to the topic they were studying and according to their own interests.<\/p>\n Virtual Museum 1: <\/strong>http:\/\/bit.ly\/2o8QgXb<\/a><\/p>\n Virtual Museum 2 : http:\/\/bit.ly\/2EP1nOE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Students\u2019 involvement in the activity exceeded our expectations, especially, students at-risk.<\/p>\n As we find it was a good practice, we are now sharing our experience.
